About 3/4 of a mile off-trail hike with 670 EG, with most of the elevation gained in the last 1/2 mile. There is a small parking spot on the west side of NC Hwy 281 at 35.083960, -82.989087. Start your hike uphill across the highway where the guardrail ends. There is a bit of rhododendron as you enter the woods, but once you gain the ridgeline, there is a decent manway all the way to the summit. Stay on the manway which maintains the southern side of the ridgeline and you will remain in Forest Service land, but north of the ridgeline is private property. There is a nice rock outcrop towards the northern end of the summit with nice views to the north/northeast, but it is just below the activation zone. I have heard that there are nice views to the south, but they must be from Rocky Knobs East.
